A pressure vessel is a closed container designed to hold gases or liquids at pressures significantly higher or lower than the surrounding atmosphere. Glassware, autoclaves, compressed gas cylinders, compressors (including refrigeration), vacuum chambers, and custom designed laboratory vessels are examples. Pressure vessels are most commonly used in domestic waterworks applications. Their primary function is to balance and maintain a constant pressure in the water distribution system. They act as water tanks and protect your pump from frequent switching, which can cause rapid wear.

Construction methods and materials can be chosen to suit the pressure application, depending on the size of the vessel, the contents, working pressure, mass constraints, and the number of items required.
